Keynote Speaker Beth Holt & Workshop Topics

Speakers will include the Texas Advocates president and Board members. The keynote speaker will be Beth Holt. Beth is a long-time Texas Advocate member and past president. She has served on the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities and as the Sabine Valley Community Center customer services representative and coordinator for the Peer-to-Peer Project.

Topics that may be covered: self advocacy, legislative advocacy, independent living, self determination, leadership, voting, transportation, employement, and Medicaid.

Make Your Own Hotel Reservation! Identify yourself as a participant in the Texas Advocates Conference to receive the discounted room rate. When making your reservations, identify any special requests you may have and specify any needs for accessible rooms. All special requests are subject to availability. The hotel will require credit card information as a deposit. Reservations must be cancelled 24 hours in advance to avoid paying for the room.

All registration will be online this year. Click on register now link to fill out registration, stipend forms and pay online. Advisors will be able to register multiple people online. Important Stipend Information: You may submit up to six stipends per group. Texas Advocates will notify you of how many stipends your group has been approved for. The stipend covers $10 of the registration fee and half the hotel room. Make your own reservations. Texas Advocates will provide a hotel stipend check at conference registration. 

 


 

CONFERENCE POLICIES

 

Cancellation Policy: No refunds will be made when a registrant fails to appear at the conference. A full refund will be made if written or faxed notice is received by July 18, 2013. 

Photo Release Statement: By registering for this conference, each attendee--whether participant or guest--grants the following to Texas Advocates: The right to photograph/videotape and use photos/videos of each attendee, along with names and titles, in connection with any broadcasts, exhibitions, displays, publications, advertisements, or any other activities in which Texas Advocates may desire. Each attendee also relinquishes and gives Texas Advocates any and all originals and copies of the finished pictures, negatives, films, and audio/videotapes. 

Membership Payment Policies: The Texas Advocates Board wants everyone to pay their Texas Advocates dues prior to the conference. The new Texas Advocates Member policy requires:

1. Local Texas Advocates chapters to pay annual Texas Advocates dues for all  members of their local chapter (self advocates and other regular attending members of their chapter who pay local dues).

2. All self advocates attending the conference should pay Texas Advocates membership dues even If you are not a  member of a local Texas Advocate Chapter, including self advocates who are members of other local self advocate groups (such as state supported living centers or local provider groups),  self advocates who do not have a local chapter in their area or self advocates who don’t want to join a local group.

3. Others attending the conference such as friends, family, staff etc. are also encouraged to pay membership dues to Texas Advocates.  

4. Each chapter and/or individual should submit their membership dues, if they have not already done so,  to Texas Advocates prior to the conference, separate from their conference registration.

5. Texas Advocates membership dues is $5 per person.

6. Please include the chapter name (if one) and  names/addresses of members and email addresses if you have them.

7. Send Texas Advocates Membership Dues to Texas Advocates, 8001 Centre Park Dr., Austin, Texas 78754.
