The Arc of Texas
Leadership Award Reception
Each legislative session, The Arc of Texas honors a legislator who has been particularly supportive of The Arc and our mission of creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Leadership Award recognizes the importance of the work of our state legislature for the Texas disability community. In 2007, Senator Judith Zaffirini received this award, and on March 10th, 2009 The Arc of Texas bestowed its highest honor upon Representative Vicki Truitt.
This event gives supporters of the honoree a chance to set themselves apart by supporting a cause that is important to the legislator being honored. The Arc not only benefits from the proceeds of the event, but also increases public awareness of the mission of the organization and has the opportunity to recruit new friends and support. In 2009, over 30 sponsors came together to raise awareness and money for the programs and services of The Arc of Texas. The reception was hosted by our honorary chair, Speaker Gib Lewis, also a respected past recipient of The Arc of Texas Leadership Award.
