The Arc of Texas
Leadership Award Reception
Each legislative session, The Arc of Texas honors a legislator who has been particularly supportive of The Arc and our mission of creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Leadership Award recognizes the importance of the work of our state legislature for the Texas disability community. In 2003, Senator Frank Madla received The Arc of Texas Leadership Award. In 2005, this award was given to Representative John Davis.
This event gives supporters of the honoree a chance to set themselves apart by supporting a cause that is important to the legislator being honored. The Arc not only benefits from the proceeds of the event, but also increases public awareness of the mission of the organization and has the opportunity to recruit new friends and support. In 2005, over 30 sponsors came together to raise more than $35,000 for programs and services for The Arc of Texas. The reception was hosted by our honorary chair, Gib Lewis, also a respected past recipient of The Arc of Texas Leadership Award.
